Okay, I’am a Chinese, live in NY. Just finish work, got home. I care about my China, and brothers and sisters there, so I read this page. Never have time to write here, but don’t want you guys fight here, so I will give some information about New York.
I am lucky. I make $80-90k a year. Average in New York is about 45k-50k. A lot of people make less and more too. Out of 90k, tax about 25k. I have 2 kids. If we hired baby sisters for both of them, it would be about 2k a month, so my wife stay with them, this way, the kids speaks 3 languages. My company give me good health insurance, so I don’t have to pay much to see doctors ($25), but company won’t give insurance to cover my wife and kids, and we don’t get help from government, so we pay about $600/month for health insurance. Food is cheap, $100 a week, but not fresh; don’t have time to buy, so shop once a week. Buy cloth once a year, because don’t have time to spend money. I don’t smoke, nor drink, good for health and money, also saves time - last week, co-workers went to drink, I didn’t go, so to have time to spend with family. I work from 10am - 8pm. Get home about 9-9:30pm, so only get to see kids on weekends. Take subway to work on weekdays, because parking cost $45 on Manhattan. My car is 9 years old, will still use it for many more years. I have a one bed room apartment, 60m. $650 a month fee. Trying to buy a bigger one, but not easy. Other big expenses such as 8k a year for retirement. College tuition is $40k/year, we have to prepare to two of them. A lot people make more than I do, but they could save a penny, because all the money is spent on smoke, drink, and fun. Trying to come to visit China, but need a lot of money. Today, when I give $100, $200 as gift, they don’t even say: “thank you”, and there are a lot of people I have to give. When I was in China, people invite me resturants, they just need sign their name, when they come to New York, I invite them and pay cash!
